I Drank Mom’s Latte (174 words)

Frothy, steamy, creamy latte,
Mom left you unattended.
I stuck a finger into foam
And licked it. It was SPLENDID.

Just a teeeensy sip, I thought,
And cupped the cozy mug.
But pumpkin spice is oh-so nice …
One sip became a CHUG.

YIKES! Mom’s latte was a goner,
So I panicked. What to do?!?
I stashed the mug by our dog Bean,
Who ate Mom’s tennis shoe.

Pleased with my solution,
I crept off to my room.
While flipping through a comic,
my pulse began to ZOOM.

With power jolting through me,
I sprang upon the bed.
Bouncing, boinging up … up … UP,
The ceiling grazed my head!

But that was just a warm-up;
I flipped, I kicked—KA-BAM!
I could have cleared a building
Or battled SUPERMAN!

Then—uh oh—Mom showed up,
A hand upon one hip.
She glared at me with knowing eyes,
And sweat began to drip.

“I’m soooo sorry, Mom!” I blurted
And collapsed into a heap.
Just like that, my powers fizzled.
Caffeine CRASH. Gimme sleep!
